Stuff and Nonsense - 17 Jun 17
Well, this week went rather nicely… The weather cooled off a bit, I’m breathing a bit easier, and actually got some housework done… Not bad, right? I was going to try going to the gym (there’s a YMCA down the block), but can you believe those guys want $61 dollars a month to use their gym? Okay, now I’ll admit I’m a little behind the times on things (we had a GREAT gym back at the Job; and remind me to tell you about the “shoe sizing” incident), but DAYUM! It just seems a bit extreme, y’know? So, I’m working on other options… Besides, $61 dollars can cover my Chinese Food/Pizza budget for a couple months…
Let’s see what’s going on in the REST of the World!
In Local News…
A woman in Queens is suing a casino, after she won $43 million dollars, and they offered her a steak dinner!
The NY State Forensics panel approved the use of familial DNA in criminal investigations!
The MTA (NYC’s bus/subway system) is kinda messed up right now; Mayor DeBlasio says that NYC should run it, if the State can’t fix the problems! Nice try, pal!
Lawyers are debating harsh jail rules for “El Chapo”, who’s jailed here in NYC … Frankly, I forgot he was here!
Elsewhere in the Nation…
Lots going on this week…
A Congressman, and several aides were shot at an early-morning baseball practice in VA! Now, these were Republicans that were shot… So, they want more protection!
DT is being investigated for obstruction of justice… This doesn’t happen in the Presidency!
DT wants to crack down on travel and trade to Cuba… I thought we were friends now!
And protections for whales and turtles were dropped by the Feds!
Puerto Rico voted to become the 51st State!
Attorney General Jeff Sessions testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee… And didn’t say a lot of anything!
Russian cyber-hacking into the US electoral system was far worse than expected!
The head of Michigan’s health department was charged with involuntary manslaughter for failing to alert the public of Legionnaire’s Disease in the Michigan water crisis!
Elsewhere on the Planet (and Beyond) …
Seven US Sailors are missing after a collision with a Japanese merchant ship!
Japan has a new anti-terrorism law that sounds like “Minority Report”!
An Afghan soldier killed three US soldiers during a raid… Why are we helping these people again?
US forces are helping troops in the Philippines fight ISIS… Let’s not open up ANOTHER front, shall we?
Meet the new group of NASA Astronauts!
Dennis Rodman is back in N. Korea… His silly ass can stay there…
N. Korea released a US student, who tried to steal a propaganda poster, and he came home in a coma!
…And he has extensive brain damage! You want a travel ban? We start with N. Korea!
Some stories that just caught my eye this week…
The First Lady finally moved into the White House!
Leonardo DiCaprio had to return Marlon Brando’s Oscar??
One-Third of the world is overweight, and the US leads the way! We’re number ONE!
Verizon finally bought Yahoo…
Since minor crimes (drinking in public, public urination) have been downgraded to “civil” (rather than criminal offenses) Bo Dietl, a former private eye who now is running for Mayor of NYC, wants people who urinate in public to pee on Gracie Mansion (the official NYC Mayor’s residence)!
Director Joel Schumacher (finally) apologized for “Batman & Robin”! Hey, Clooney apologized…
NYC wants to hire a “nightlife ambassador” to handle liaison duties between the local music spots/clubs and City Government… I know a few people who would be good candidates!
Some interesting people passed away this week…
Actor Adam West (Batman) died…
Director John Avildsen (“Rocky”, “The Karate Kid”) died…
Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl died…
Well, that’s the way the week went… And I do hope yours met with your satisfaction… We’ve got some great things to share this week, like a couple of great short films (“Nano”, and “Rakka” are standouts), the research tool to end all research tools (sorry, Google), “Thug Notes”, and our pal Roger are back (Roger’s topic this week: “If Mobile Games were Honest”), Bruce Lee’s only real fight, jokes, links, some cool pictures, and lots more… As always, a solid tip of the hat to those who sent me things this week (or the ideas for things) … I need all the help I can get…
