Stuff and Nonsense - 20 Jan 18
Lots going on in the world this week, that’s for sure… As for me, it was much of the same… Which is always a good thing… Another doctor’s appointment, more tests, more trying to get this approved, that approved… Whatever… I’ve gotten to the point where I forget which doctor does what sometimes.
This is the type of thing that will drive one ‘round the bend…
Let’s see what’s going on in the REST of the World!
In Local News…
NYC created over 24,000 “affordable homes” in 2K17. What defines “affordable”??
NYPD just transferred 29 police Captains to run precincts; over protests from people who think they’re unqualified… It’s HIS Department; if it doesn’t work, he’ll hear about it for sure!
NY State’s “Commission on Corrections” doesn’t inspect NY State prisons enough, a new report claims…
Two NYPD Officers helped deliver a baby in Midtown Manhattan traffic! Nice job!
Elsewhere in the Nation…
The US Gov’t has shut down, because the people WE elected to represent us are acting like kids fighting over some candy! Congratulations, you are all (Say it, DT) FIRED!!
The Pentagon wants to use nukes against “large cyber-attacks” … Nice job telling the bad guys what to target first!
DT had his physical, and now there’s a controversy about how tall he is, and how much he weighs?? Meet the “Girther” movement! A solid 9.999 on my “who gives a flapping f**k-o-meter”!!
A former CIA employee was arrested for illegally keeping secret documents/info!
Five officers on two US Navy ships involved in collisions were charged with “negligent homicide”!
Elsewhere on the Planet (and Beyond) …
N. Korea will send a 230-member “cheering squad” to the Olympics next month. 230 people? Isn’t that a bit much? Make sure they aren’t up to any shenanigans!
And North and South Korea will march under one flag during the Olympics… I’m still watching you guys!
Saturn’s moon Titan has a sea level! NASA, get to work! We’ve gotta get there!
S. Africa will “formally protest” DT calling their country a “shithole” … Like he cares!
England’s “Brexit” bill passed the House of Commons… Soon, they’ll realize they messed up!
Some stories that just caught my eye this week…
A fake missile alert in HI caused a panic… How much you wanna bet someone’s unemployed?
… And the guy who sent the “Missile Alert” to Hawaiian citizens has been “reassigned to other duties”. That’s code for “Your ass is fired”!
The fifth-largest diamond ever found was just dug up!
Chelsea Manning is running for Senator in MD. Someone is looking to get back in the news! Here’s a tip: Go on “Dancing With the Stars”…
Japan has an emergency broadcast system, and used it to announce a recall of pre-packaged blowfish… Good call!
A British surgeon burned his initials into the livers of patients he’d operated on! What the Hell??
A Chinese rocket booster almost crashed into a town! We’ve got video!
A meteor exploded over Michigan… We’ve got video!
England now has a “Minister of Loneliness”!
Nestle is selling its US candy business to Ferrero for $2.8 Billion! They’d better not mess it up!
More chocolate news: There will be a new Kit Kat bar out, made of “Ruby Chocolate”. “Ruby Chocolate”? This is science! Science requires testing! Testing requires…CHOCOLATE! I like it!
The Bayeux Tapestry will leave France for the first time in 950 years!
Some interesting people passed away this week…
Singer Edwin Hawkins (“Oh Happy Day”) died…
Singer Dolores O’Riordan (“The Cranberries”) died…
Former Director of the CIA Stansfield Turner died…
Director Hugh Wilson (“Police Academy”, “The First Wives Club”) died…
Original Mouseketeer Doreen Tracey died…
Well, that’s the way the week went… And I do hope yours met with your satisfaction… We’ve got some great things to share this week, like a great “Harry Potter” fanfilm (fair warning, it’s kinda long), an interview with Samuel L. Jackson (who still owes me a beer), a behind-the-scenes look at two culturally significant events: Johnny Cash’s 1968 Folsom Prison concert, and the recording of “We are the World” for its 30th anniversary (damn, I feel old) … As well as the usual jokes, trivia, cool pictures and more… And we here at “Stuff & Nonsense” tip our collective hats to all those who send us things (and the ideas for things) … You are the best!
